Various fish specimens collected from Shizugawa Bay are stored at the Minami-Sanriku Nature Centre. Here, we report on the ichthyofauna of Shizugawa Bay based on these specimens. A total of 927 specimens were collected from October 2001 to December 2023, comprising 22 orders, 98 families, and 269 species. Recently, warm-water species have been collected more frequently, suggesting that the fish fauna in Shizugawa Bay is changing due to increasing seawater temperatures. In the future, comprehensive monitoring of the ichthyofauna in Shizugawa Bay will be conducted using environmental DNA methods, in addition to specimen collection.
